Frequently Asked Questions

SunGround's Mission

What is SunGround?

We are an annual outdoor, overnight event-space centered on empowerment of the individual, the immediate collective, and the global collective through celebration of all voices and arts. We define “the immediate collective” as those present at the event, and “the global collective” as those external, our global community.

  1. We aim to provide a space for local artists, both established and emerging, to present their work– musicians, painters, poets, visual artists, photographers, artisans, crafters, culinary artists, etc.
    • We emphasize the necessity of a spectrum of voices within our chosen artists– those of differing backgrounds, races, ethnicities, socioeconomic brackets, genders, sexualities, ages, abilities, etc.
    • We dedicate time to Open Mics without restriction on art form to allow guests the opportunity to present work alongside invited artists.
  2. We aim to provide an educational space– throughout the event we allocate space for discussions and workshops to take place, and dedicate specific areas of the event to vehicles of text-based learning– novels, poetry chatbooks, nonfiction texts, etc.
  3. We aim to provide a safe, rejuvenating space– we create space for yoga practitioners, and creative activities such as our painting station, a family-friendly movie projected onto bed sheets, and our “Cozy Corner,” a children-friendly zone equip with paper, colored pencils, coloring books, markers, puzzles, board games, etc.
  4. We aim to provide wilderness engagement– our event is held at a campground in the Pinelands of New Jersey. We place artistic accomplishments within the revitalizing sphere of nature to strengthen the relationship between art, ourselves, and the natural world.
  5. We aim to provide opportunities for growth artistically, intellectually, spiritually, physically, emotionally and communally– this we emphasize for all entities of invited artists, attending guests, faculty of venue, and SunGround board members.
  6. We aim to create awareness and foster support for our global community by donating all proceeds to a near-and-dear charity organization. The organization is attentively chosen each year. [2018 Charity: CARE Youth Empowerment, 2019 Charity: RAICES]

~~~~~
We aim to celebrate local artistry, work to provide peoples of historically unheard voices with deserved opportunities to hold a spotlight, to magnetize community in creation, intellectual stimulation, and global awareness.
The SunGround Experience
What awaits me at SunGround?
Alright, check it. We got a rich mix of people, music, poetry, visual artists, yoga, vendors, workshops/discussions, a henna artist, a basketball court, a tetherball court, some nutritious & delicious food, some bubble tea, a midnight movie, a painting station, a corner dedicated to cozy writing/coloring/reading, some open air, beautiful forest sun, and a SunGround Crew who wants to see you thrive in your own specific body.
We strive to create a safe, soothing, dynamic, creative, inspiring, challengiing, rejuvenating, exploratory space for all who enter. Where you are free to be as fearlessly outrageous AN/OR as wildly, quietly buzzing as you are.
We celebrate you!.. & all of us! And not only will you hopefully get your fill of arts & nature, but also your fill of connection to self, connection to community, and connection to the world.
Come breathe & groove with us!
